This Privacy Policy explains how personal information is collected, used, stored and protected when you use the Stay & Fish website, create a member account, contact Stay & Fish or use member features.

This notice applies to the Stay & Fish public website and member services.

These services currently include public website content and member accounts, and may develop to include features such as:

  • Saved Waters
  • Plan My Trip
  • saved trip records
  • fishing journals
  • community and social features
  • Club Spaces
  • Ask the Gillie
  • weather-related tools
  • online books and guides
  • personalised story or book features
  • other member or subscription services

Not all of these features are available at all times.

Where a future feature involves new or materially different use of personal information, this Privacy Policy may be updated and additional information may be provided when that feature becomes available.

If you create a Stay & Fish member account, information may include:

  • your name or chosen display name
  • your email address
  • your unique account identifier
  • your membership status or account type
  • account creation and update dates
  • email-verification status
  • authentication and account-security information

Stay & Fish does not receive or store your password in readable form.

Authentication services are provided using Firebase Authentication, a Google service.

Stay & Fish may maintain a member profile associated with your account.

This may include information such as:

  • display name
  • email address
  • membership type
  • account status
  • preferences
  • profile settings
  • feature entitlements
  • dates associated with account creation or updates

Some profile information may remain private, while future community features may allow selected profile information to be visible to other members.

Where public profile features are introduced, the information that may be shared publicly will be identified clearly.

Stay & Fish may use your email address to:

  • verify your account
  • send password-reset instructions
  • provide important security or account information
  • respond to support or account enquiries
  • notify you about significant service or legal changes where appropriate

Account and security emails are operational communications and are not marketing emails.

When you sign in, Firebase Authentication and related website technologies may process information needed to keep you securely signed in.

This may include:

  • authentication tokens
  • login state
  • session information
  • device or browser information
  • security and diagnostic information

These technologies are used to provide account functionality and security.

They are not used by Stay & Fish for behavioural advertising.

As Stay & Fish develops, members may choose to provide information through features such as:

  • Saved Waters
  • trip plans
  • saved trips
  • fishing journals
  • catch records
  • photographs
  • comments or community posts
  • club participation
  • stories and memories
  • preferences
  • support requests

The amount of information collected depends on which features you choose to use.

You should avoid providing unnecessary sensitive personal information through general notes, comments, posts or uploads.

Certain future features may involve location-related information, for example:

  • a water you save
  • a place included in a trip plan
  • a fishing location you choose to record
  • a location attached to a journal or catch record

Stay & Fish will not treat precise location tracking as automatically enabled simply because you have a member account.

Where device location or precise location information is required by a future feature, an appropriate permission or choice should be presented.

Members remain responsible for considering whether sharing an exact fishing location publicly could expose a sensitive, private or protected fishing spot.

Stay & Fish may provide community or social features.

Information you choose to make visible through these features may be seen by other members.

This could include:

  • display name
  • profile information
  • photographs
  • posts
  • comments
  • catches
  • fishing stories
  • club-related activity
  • other content you intentionally share

You should not post personal information about another person without an appropriate basis or permission.

Stay & Fish may process community content where necessary to operate the service, enforce community rules, respond to reports, investigate misuse and protect users.

Stay & Fish may provide AI-assisted features including Ask the Gillie.

Information submitted to an AI-assisted feature may be processed in order to generate a response.

Depending on the feature, this may include:

  • the question you ask
  • the water or topic you select
  • relevant Stay & Fish guide or journal material
  • approved reference material
  • information from your own saved account context where the feature is designed to use it

Free or guided versions of Ask the Gillie may limit questions to predefined choices and approved source material.

Future premium versions may provide broader conversational features.

Stay & Fish will aim to minimise unnecessary personal information sent to AI services.

You should not enter highly sensitive personal information into AI-assisted tools unless the feature specifically requires it and explains why.

Where third-party AI providers are used, they may process information as service providers to enable the requested functionality.

If you use planning or journal features, Stay & Fish may process information such as:

  • waters you save
  • planned trip dates
  • trip notes
  • fishing methods
  • species of interest
  • catch records
  • photographs
  • journal entries
  • personal memories or notes

This information is used to provide the feature, save your records and make them available when you return to your account.

Future features may allow some information to be shared or used to create a personalised story or book, but this should only occur where the feature is clearly presented and you choose to use it.

Stay & Fish may in future allow members to create personalised stories, journals or books from their own saved material.

If you choose to use such a feature, Stay & Fish may process selected:

  • trip records
  • journal entries
  • photographs
  • catch information
  • dates
  • locations
  • personal stories or memories

The information used should be limited to what is necessary to provide the requested product or service.

Additional terms or notices may apply when personalised physical or digital products are offered.

Stay & Fish does not currently offer an active paid membership subscription through the website.

If paid subscriptions or purchases are introduced, payment information will generally be processed by a specialist payment provider.

A deletion request may be subject to:

  • reasonable identity verification
  • technical processing time
  • retention required by law
  • information needed to resolve disputes or security incidents
  • information that has been lawfully anonymised
  • content that must remain where another lawful basis applies

Where community features are introduced, deleting an account may not automatically remove every reference to content that has been lawfully shared with others, although personal identifiers should be removed where appropriate.

Requests can be made to stayandfish@gmail.com until an in-account deletion function is provided.
